Defender expected to complete loan move to Werder Bremen today

Chelsea defender Papy Djilobodji is expected to leave Stamford Bridge today on a six-month loan deal to German side Werder Bremen.

The centre-back only arrived at the Premier League side over the summer, after they agreed to sign him from French side Nantes in a deal worth just shy of £3million.

However, days after the signing, Jose Mourinho admitted that buying Djilobodji wasn’t his idea and the Senegal international has barely kicked a ball for the Blues since.

In fact, the centre-back has played just 60-seconds of football as a Chelsea man, and that came in the Capital One Cup against League One side Walsall.

It was well documented that Chelsea wanted a centre-back over the summer, but after failing to land both John Stones and Marquinhos, they landed Djilobodji on Transfer Deadline Day.

Medical in Germany

According to reports, the centre-back has undergone a medical in Germany with Bremen and he is likely to be announced as their player later today on a temporary basis.

The 27-year-old signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge, but it looks like his time at the club is already over.
