With new Spurs boss Tim Sherwood managing to get strikers Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor scoring again, it is a bit of a surprise that Tottenham are now going after another striker, Alexandre Pato.

The 24 year-old has spent much of career suffering from injury problems and this somewhat limited the Brazilian during his 5 years at AC Milan despite having goal scoring talent.

Pato was bought by Brazilian side Corinthians in January and has 9 goals already this season from 17 starts in the league.

Arsenal had their £6.5m bid turned down by Corinthians as the Sao Paulo club were keen to keep their striker but reports in Brazil suggest he is getting back to his best for another try at European football.

Pato’s former youth coach Osmar Loss told Gazeta Esportiva: “His performance (last season) was well below what he is capable of, but even so he is back on an upward curve,”
