Premier League Player of The Month Awards 14/15 Season

After another stunning Premier League campaign, it’s time to look back, and today, we are looking back into the Player of the Month awards from August 2014 to April 2015.

Who won the award and why for each month.

Throughout the campaign, there was only ONE player who won Player of the Month on two separate occasions. Lets take a look at who that lucky guy was!

Starting off with August’s Player of the Month.

August 2014 – Diego Costa – Chelsea

Starting the list is Chelsea Summer signing from Atletico Madrid, Diego Costa.

The Spaniard settled to life in England just fine, scoring four goals in just the three games played in August.

His goalscoring form continued for the majority of the season as he ended the campaign with 20 Premier League goals, only behind Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane.

September 2014 –  Graziano Pellè – Southampton

Winning September’s Player of the Month award was yet another new face to the Premier League.

Graziano Pelle joined Southampton from Feyenoord and was another striker to settle in just fine in England, helping Ronald Koeman’s team end the season seventh, despite the club losing a lot of key players over the Summer break.

During the month of September, Pelle netted three goals, two in the 4-0 win over Newcastle United and an acrobatic winner against Queens Park Rangers.

October 2014 – Diafra Sakho – West Ham United

Another month and another new face to the Premier League picking up the Player of the Month gong.

Diafra Sakho was one of Sam Allardyce’s biggest buys over the Summer, and he didn’t disappoint.

During October, the West Ham striker netted three goals and also got an assist, but despite winning the award, Sakho admitted he was shocked.

“I’m a bit surprised,” he said. “I’d like to thank everyone that’s helped me along the way, especially here and also earlier in my career at Metz.”

November 2014 – Sergio Aguero – Manchester City

Of course he was going to win at least one Player of the Month.

Sergio Aguero, who won the Golden Boot after netting 26 goals, won the November Player of the Month award after scoring four goals in just three games.

Surprisingly it was Aguero’s first ever Player of the Month award in the Premier League and even more surprisingly, he wasn’t named in the PFA Team of the Year. Missing out to Diego Costa and Harry Kane.

December 2014- Charlie Austin – Queens Park Rangers

Sometimes having a lethal striker just isn’t enough.

Queens Park Rangers were relegated from the Premier League this season, despite the heroics shown by England international Charlie Austin.

His performances were rewarded in December as he was crowned Player of the Month after netting five times throughout the Christmas period.

Austin scored all-but one of QPR’s goals that month.

January AND February 2015 – Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur

We said only one player won the award twice and it was the PFA Young Player of the Year Harry Kane.

In fact, he won it in back-to-back months kicking off 2015 in style.

During January, Kane netted five goals for Tottenham and then continued his fine-scoring form into February, netting a further four, including a match-winning brace against Arsenal.

Kane ended the season on 21 goals, just five shy of Aguero’s tally.

March 2015- Olivier Giroud – Arsenal

After seeing a Spurs player win the award on back-to-back months, it came to Arsenal’s pleasure when Olivier Giroud prevented Kane from winning it three times in a row.

During the month of March, the French striker netted an impressive six goals in all competitions, recovering well from his nightmare night against AS Monaco in the Champions League.

As well as Giroud winning Player of the Month, Arsene Wenger also won Manager of the Month.

April 2015- Christian Benteke – Aston Villa

The Belgium striker won the final Player of the Month award thanks to his incredible end of season form.

Benteke re-found his former self under Tim Sherwood, and netted five goals in four games throughout the month of April, helping Aston Villa avoid the drop and also saw them into the FA Cup Final.
