SillySeason look into stars who could be released from clubs at the end of the season

Despite there still being many months left of the current campaign, focus is already turning to the end of the season and the summer transfer window.

When a season ends, more and more players become available and some even become available for free following their release from a club and that’s what SillySeason are going to look into today.

Whether the player themselves let their contracts run down, or whether the club have decided not to renew, here is a list of potential players who could be free agents come the summer of 2016.

Lets take a look.

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta

The club-captain sees his contract expire at the end of this season, and following months out with injury problems, Mikel Arteta has quickly become a fringe player.

The Spaniard could be leaving the Emirates Stadium, but is also being eyed as a potential coach for the future.

Mathieu Flamini

Two goals against Tottenham Hotspur won’t get you a new contract, and sadly for Mathieu Flamini, it could be an end to his Premier League days.

The veteran is behind Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta in the ranks and this could be his final spell with the North London club.

Joel Campbell

Joel Campbell is getting his chance at Arsenal due to injuries to Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but he needs to make it count.

He did score against Swansea City, and looked okay against Tottenham Hotspur, but he needs to continue and needs to prove to Arsene Wenger that he deserves a new contract.

Tomas Rosicky

Tomas Rosicky wanted to leave this summer, but Arsenal activated a clause in his contract that lead to his deal being extended by a year.

He’s almost certain to leave the Emirates this summer, which will be a sad day for the fans, as they consider Rosicky a club-legend for sticking with them through tough times.

Chelsea

Branislav Ivanovic

This time last year, you’d guarantee Branislav Ivanovic would be getting a new deal, but what a difference a year makes.

Ivanovic has really struggled so far this campaign, as have Chelsea in general, but it could cost him his long-term future with Jose Mourinho and co. considering a new deal.

Due to his age, Ivanovic is on a 12-month rolling contract at Stamford Bridge, and after a sloppy start, he could be on his way out of the club come 2016.

John Terry

Is it the end of John Terry at Chelsea?

Just like Ivanovic, last year you would have said no chance, but this year, he’s also struggled to perform at the back.

On a 12-month contract like his defensive partner, Terry’s days at Chelsea could finally be over.

Liverpool

Jon Flanagan

Jon Flanagan is predicted a bright future at Anfield, but after being ruled out for nearly 20-months, he has a lot of catching up to do.

The right-back, who is nicknamed Cafu in Merseyside, burst onto the scene a few years ago, but a serious injury has kept him sidelined since.

With his contract up at the end of the season and a new manager in place, Flanagan’s future may not be at Liverpool after all.

Jose Enrique

A player certain to leave Liverpool.

He was pushed aside by Brendan Rodgers over the summer and it doesn’t look like Jurgen Klopp wants him either.

The Spaniard is expected to leave at the end of his contract with no new deal offered by the Merseyside club.

Manchester United

Michael Carrick

With Manchester United’s mega-money spending in recent years, it could be time to say goodbye to Michael Carrick.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger came in over the summer in his place, and more additions are expected next summer.

Carrick has been a great servant for United, but his time could be up at the club.

Victor Valdes

What a poor time he’s having.

Guaranteed to leave Manchester United and it will probably be before the summer.

A fall-out with Louis van Gaal has ended his United career before it even got started.

So there are several players who could be leaving Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United in the summer for free.

Who would be the biggest loss?
