SillySeason name their Team of the Week after game-week 9

After yet another fascinating Premier League weekend, it’s time for SillySeason to put together their Team of the Week.

Jurgen Klopp’s managerial debut in the Premier League, Sam Allardyce’s new era at Sunderland and eyes on whether Manchester City could cope without Sergio Aguero, it was once again another packed schedule.

So after the weekend games, one of our writers put together a starting XI, and now you can read through who made the team.

Goalkeeper: David De Gea – Manchester United

The Spaniard again proved how valuable he is to United, pulling off a string of fine saves which may well have secured the three points for the Red Devils.

Defence: Hector Bellerin – Arsenal

The energetic Spaniard played a key role in Arsenal’s convincing 0-3 win away to Watford. The full back contributed the assist for Arron Ramsey’s goal, and his breathless defensive display helped secure the clean sheet.

Defence: Jan Vertonghen – Tottenham Hotspur

The Tottenham man was arguably the most important man in keeping Jurgen Klopp’s men at bay on the German’s managerial debut for Liverpool.

Defence: Chris Smalling – Manchester United

The centre back continues to go from strength to strength under Louis Van Gaal. Smiling once again put in a domineering display and contributed an assist at Goodison park, helping United keep a clean sheet in their 0-3 win against Everton.

Defence: Marcos Rojo – Manchester United

Just as above, Rojo played an important role at both ends, grabbing an assist himself and putting in a solid defensive display to keep another clean sheet for Louis Van Gaal’s side.

Midfield: Giorginio Wijnaldum – Newcastle United

Well… he scored four goals. From midfield. The Dutchman has proven to be one of the purchases of the summer, contributing mass creativity and goals. He became the first Magpie’s player to net a hat trick for the club since Demba Ba.

Midfield: Moussa Sissoko – Newcastle United

The Frenchman also got a hat trick against for Newcastle in their 6-2 win over Norwich. Albeit a hat trick of assists. But no less important.

Midfield: Ander Herrera – Manchester United

The Spaniard has began to prove his worth to Louis Van Gaal this season, after initially losing his place to Memphis Depay. Herrera proved to be United’s main creative force in their 3-0 win at Everton, laying on an assist for Rooney, whilst playing a part in the other two.

Attack: Raheem Sterling – Manchester City

The youngster has come under pressure recently for his lack of goals since arriving at the Etihad. The pressure appeared to be getting to Sterling as he failed to find the net, but his first half hat trick in Saturday’s 5-1 thrashing of Bournemouth will be a huge weight off his mind.

Attack: Wilfried Bony – Manchester City

Much like Sterling, the Ivorian has come under fire for not delivering since his arrival from Swansea in January. Before the weekend he had only scored twice for City, but doubled his entire tally against Bournemouth, scoring two well taken goals.

Attack: Jamie Vardy – Leicester City

Just when you think that the Leicester man’s goals must have dried up, he goes on to score. With the Foxes 2-0 down at half time, Vardy once again stepped up to the plate, bagging a second half brace to secure a well earned point at Southampton.
