An exciting game between Newcastle and Manchester City takes place at St James’ Park tonight, with Newcastle looking to avoid relegation from the Premier League and City to secure a Champions League place.

Rafa Benitez inspired his Newcastle side to a much-needed 3-0 win over Swansea on Saturday, and will certainly hope to build on that victory in front of the Sky cameras tonight as they face a strong Manchester city side, as they battle bravely against the drop.

However Newcastle, who are currently three points from safety with five to play – have lost 6-1 and 5-0 in their past two Premier League meetings with Man City, a record that Magpies fans will soon want to forget as they come to the business end of the season.

Another stat that doesn’t favour Newcastle is that they haven’t beaten Man City in a league game since September 2005 – 10 and a half years ago.

If history is anything to go by, then Newcastle United will have a massive job on their hands in order to beat Manchester City
