Chelsea striker Radamel Falcao was left in the lurk last night as his proposed loan-switch back to Atletico Madrid fell through.
The Colombian international was in Spain for the majority of the day, waiting in a hotel with his agent Jorge Mendes for the expected deal to be finalised, but due to Jackson Martinez failing to get a move away, the deal was cancelled.
It was expected that Falcao would join the La Liga giants on a short-term loan deal, but because Diego Simeone couldn’t ship out Martinez, he couldn’t make room for Falcao in his squad.
Martinez has only been at the club for a few months since leaving FC Porto, but he’s struggled to set Spain alight, scoring just three goals all season, with his last coming in October.
However, a proposed move to the Chinese Super League fell through for the Colombian, which then had a knock-on effect on Falcao’s proposed switch.
Falcao is now expected to spend the remainder of the season at Stamford Bridge.
