Real Madrid and Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo has played down his latest record, stating that they come naturally to him. 

The maverick Ronaldo scored twice in a 5-1 win for Portugal against Cameroon on Wednesday evening. 

Ronaldo has now scored a superb 49 goals in 110 senior appearances, surpassing the previous mark set by former Paris Saint Germain forward Pauleta, who scored 47 times in his 88 caps.

“I do not look to beat records,” Ronaldo told national broadcaster RTP after the game. “This happens naturally, with a lot of effort, dedication, with the excellent national team we have, a good coach. I knew that sooner or later it was going to happen”. 

Ronaldo himself has had a superb season for Real Madrid, with the former Manchester United man also winning the Ballon D’or award. pipping rival Lionel Messi in the process. 

Aside from a brilliant season at Madrid, he scored nine goals in ten games for Portugal, and also scored a hat-trick in the play off fixture against Sweden, to help his Country reach the World Cup Finals. 

Ronaldo will be hoping to impress in Brazil, with Portugal drawn against Germany, Ghana and the United States, in Group G.
