A summer clear-out could take place at Anfield

Liverpool are looking to replace Mario Balotelli with his Italy international teammate Ciro Immobile in the summer transfer window.

Balotelli has failed to make an impact at the Merseyside club since joining for £16 million from AC Milan at the beginning of the season.

Now the Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers thinks enough is enough, as his patience continue to wear thin with the controversial striker.

Rodgers is reportedly looking to offload the 24-year old and wants to replace him with Borussia Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

On his website, Di Marzio said: “Ciro Immobile could be leaving Germany for England.”

He also added: “Liverpool are interested in the Italian striker. The Reds have contacted Borussia Dortmund’s director Zorc. Immobile could replace Balotelli.”

Immobile joined Dortmund at the beginning of the season from Torino for around £15.5 million. He scored 22 goals in Serie A which saw him finish as the top goalscorer in Italy’s top division.

However, he has struggled for goals in the Bundesliga this campaign, scoring just three league goals in what has been a poor season for BVB’s recent high standards.

The 25-year old may see the up and coming departure of successful and long-term Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp as a reason to leave the club. Klopp has managed the team for seven years, winning back to back Bundesliga titles (2010-2011, 2011-2012) and one DFB-Pokal (2011-2012).
