Roman Abramovich has apparently paved the way for Nemanja Matic to join the Red Devils but Chelsea will add what is being called a ‘Lukaku tax’ to any transfer fee.
Reports claim Matic has been told his desire to move to United and team up again with Jose Mourinho will be granted as a gesture of goodwill in view of his service to the club.
Abramovich stepped in to afford Petr Cech a similar courtesy and let him join Arsenal in 2015 when Mourinho, then manager of Chelsea, was firmly against the transfer.
Matic was omitted from Chelsea’s pre-season squad and on Thursday Corriere dello Sport claimed a meeting took place between the 28-year-old’s agent and Juventus’ director of football Fabio Paratici earlier this week.
Reports also claim Juventus are not willing to meet Chelsea’s £40million asking price, leaving Manchester United open to swoop in.
