Writers from SillySeason pick their winners from 11 categories

The Premier League campaign is over and all that is left to do is host an end of season awards ceremony.

All the official awards have been decided and it was Chelsea Football Club that cleaned up with Eden Hazard and Jose Mourinho taking home the prestigious awards, but here at SillySeason we have come up with 11 categories to give everyone a chance of winning something.

The 11 categories are; Manager of the Season, Signing of the Season, Flop of the Season, Goal of the Season, Save of the Season, Game of the Season, LOL of the Season, Moment of the Season, Underachievers of the Season, Overachievers of the Season and Shock Talent of the Season.

Each category has five nominees chosen by lead-writer Alex Batt, but Goal of the Season has seven possible options.

So without further ado, lets get on win the awards voted by our team of 20 writers.

Manager of the Season

The five managers shortlisted were: Jose Mourinho, Ronald Koeman, Garry Monk, Nigel Pearson and Tim Sherwood.

Mourinho for Chelsea has guided them to their fifth league title, whilst Koeman has helped Southampton defy all odds by finishing seventh in the league after a Summer of sales.

Monk has achieved Swansea’s best ever finish in the Premier League in his first full season, whilst Pearson and Sherwood have both guided their teams to great escapes.

Here is how our writers voted.

Alexis has been stunning in his debut season in England for Arsenal, as has Costa and Pelle for Chelsea and Southampton respectively.

Fabregas has been pivotal in Chelsea’s title-win, whilst Fabianski came close to the golden glove with Swansea after leaving Arsenal on a free.

Flop of the Season

The nominees are: Mario Balotelli, Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria, Dejan Lovren and Eliaquim Mangala.

All of these players have struggled at their new clubs this season and with a lot of money spent on all of them, bar Balotelli, the club’s will have seen them as wasted money.

Falcao despite being a loan, was still sitting on a mega-contract but as since returned to parent club AS Monaco.

Here is how the writers voted:

Alex Batt – Angel Di Maria, Jack Wynne – Radamel Falcao, Joseph Richardson – Radamel Falcao, Matt Derrig – Mario Balotelli, Charlie Gregory – Mario Balotelli, Connor Breen – Angel Di Maria, Kieran Makin – Radamel Falcao, Drew Derbyshire – Mario Balotelli, Kayleigh Neild – Mario Balotelli, Louie Chandler – Radamel Falcao, Ben Reardon – Radamel Falcao, Steve Milne – Radamel Falcao, Ollie Brown – Mario Balotelli, Connor Billington – Radamel Falcao, Michael Horne – Mario Balotelli, Steve Osborne – Mario Balotelli.

The nominees are: Leicester 5-3 Manchester United, Everton 3-6 Chelsea, Stoke 6-1 Liverpool, Southampton 8-0 Sunderland and Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea.

All of these game were memorable and stood-out to us throughout the campaign, but which one did the writers vote as the best game of the season?

Here is how they voted.

Goal of the Season

The nominees for this category are; Charlie Adam vs Chelsea, Jermain Defoe vs Newcastle, Jack Wilshere vs WBA, Juan Mata vs Liverpool, Philippe Coutinho vs Southampton, Bobby Zamora vs WBA, Matt Phillips vs Crystal Palace.

All of these goals standout in our memory as absolutely world-class goals. Wilshere’s goal yesterday won Goal of the Season, but here is how our writers voted.

Alex Batt – Jermain Defoe, Louie Chandler – Bobby Zamora, Charlie Gregory – Matt Phillips, Jack Wynne – Juan Mata, Joseph Richardson – Matt Phillips, Ollie Brown – Juan Mata, Drew Darbyshire – Charlie Adam, Kieran Makin – Charlie Adam, Ben Reardon – Charlie Adam, Kayleigh Neild – Charlie Adam, Matt Derrig – Jermain Defoe, Connor Breen – Jermain Defoe, Michael Horne – Charlie Adam, Steve Osborne – Charlie Adam, Connor Billington – Jermain Defoe, Steve Milne – Charlie Adam.

Winner – Charlie Adam (Stoke City)

Save of the Season

The nominees for this category are: Joe Hart vs Swansea, Tim Howard vs Southampton, David De Gea vs Everton, Kasper Schmeichel vs Burnley and Fraser Forster vs QPR.

Instead of naming all the writers winners, to go about it in a quicker way, Joe Hart’s save against Swansea won the award with 13 votes.

David De Gea’s save vs Everton came second with three votes.

Winner – Joe Hart (Manchester City)

LOL of the Season

The nominees for this award are: John Carver – Best coach quote, Steven Gerrard’s red card, LVG’s English Struggles, Nigel Pearson’s Antics and Wayne Rooney’s boxing celebration.

All of these humerous moments stood out for us, with even a Liverpool fan voting for Gerrard’s quick red card against Manchester United.

But which one stands out as the funniest?

John Carver’s best coach quote! Yes nine of our writers chose the infamous quote from the Newcastle United boss as the funniest moment of the season.

Stevie G’s quick red card got 5 votes, whilst Louis Van Gaal and Nigel Pearson each got one vote.

Winner – John Carver Best Coach Quote (Newcastle United)

Moment of the Season

The nominees: Jonas Gutierrez keeping Newcastle up, Steven Gerrard’s Anfield farewell, Pearson strangling James McArthur, Pearson calling reporter an ostrich and Frank Lampard’s equaliser vs Chelsea.

Some more memorable moments from the 2014/2015 campaign, but what stood out to our writers?

Jonas Gutierrez scoring to keep Newcastle in the Premier League! 11 writers all voted for the midfielder’s goal on the final day after he recovered from testicular cancer.

The Argentine scored the second in a 2-0 win to keep The Magpies in the Premier League.

In second place was Gerrard’s Anfield farewell, which picked up six votes.

Winner – Jonas Gutierrez Survival Goal (Newcastle United)

Overachievers of the Season

The nominees for the teams that shocked us are: Southampton, Stoke City, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City

All of these teams have had marvelous seasons and all standout to us as the overachievers of the season. However, there can only be one winner, so who wins for us?

Ronald Koeman’s Southampton! The Saints were tipped for relegation after selling all their star players, but they ended the season seventh and could be in the Europa League next year if Arsenal win the FA Cup.

12 of our writers voted for Southampton as the overachievers, whilst two voted for Palace and Stoke.

Garry Monk’s Swansea got one vote, whilst no-one choice Leicester.

Winner – Southampton

Underachievers of the Season

The nominations for this category are: Newcastle United, Hull City, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester City.

In our eyes, these five teams have all under-performed with one of them getting relegated to the Championship. The Magpies survived on the final day, whilst Everton, Liverpool and City all fell short in their pre-season hopes.

However, there can only be one winner and it goes to Liverpool.

Six writers voted Liverpool, whilst four picked their Merseyside rivals Everton.

Newcastle and Hull got three votes each, whilst City got one despite finishing second.

Winner – Liverpool

Shock Talent of the Season

Five players that shocked the Premier League this season are: Harry Kane, Saido Berahino, Charlie Austin, Danny Ings and Hector Bellerin.

How did our writers vote for this category?

Well the majority picked Tottenham’s Harry Kane and can you blame them?

15 writers picked the striker, whilst Berahino and Austin got one vote each.

Winner – Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

So there we have it. The SillySeason End of Season Awards.

Congratulations to all those who were victorious in their categories!
