We look into what helped Chelsea storm the Premier League

It was never in question was it? Chelsea Football Club to win the 2014/2015 Premier League and in reality, they won it at a canter thanks to six certain points.

After being confirmed champions the other week after a win over Crystal Palace, Jose Mourinho guided Chelsea to their fifth league title and we thought we’d take a deeper look into why they won the title.

Here are the six reasons we have behind their Premier League title-winning squad.

6. Outstanding Defence

Chelsea Football Club have got the best defenders in the Premier League from right-back to left-back.

Branislav Ivanovic has somehow been converted into a right-back and despite not having the usual build for a full-back, he has somehow turned into the best in the Premier League. The Serb has provided Chelsea with goals and assists in crucial games as well as being a rock at the back.

Gary Cahill and John Terry in the heart of the back-line. Easily the best centre-back pairing and probably the two best in the league. A strong understanding and a blend of abilities has made them unbreakable.

Cesar Azpilicueta has continued to develop and just like Ivanovic, he’s doing it out of position. The Spaniard arrived at Stamford Bridge as a right-back, but he’s now seen as Ashley Cole’s replacement on the other side of the defence.

The fact Chelsea then have Kurt Zouma and Filipe Luis waiting in the wings is also telling to their squad.

5. Brilliant Goal Keepers

It’s vital to have a world-class goalkeeper in your squad. Chelsea have two.

Thibaut Courtois returned from a three-year loan spell away at Atletico Madrid and came in as the new number-one, whilst his understudy was no other than Petr Cech.

The veteran is still one of the best in the world and is likely to leave over the Summer, but having both of them at the club has certainly aided Jose Mourinho.

4. Jose Mourinho

Number 4 is the Jose Mourinho effect.

He just knows how to win doesn’t he?! Whether it’s titles or individual matches, Mourinho has the gift of winning.

Chelsea did all their attacking work in the first-half of the season meaning they could be sensible and disciplined in the second-half of the season and it’s all down to Mourinho.

Boring, Boring Chelsea is the chant, but if anything, it’s efficiency from Mourinho and his coaching staff.

Having the best squad in the England is great, but having one of the the best managers in the world certainly helps.

3. Eden Hazard

Undoubtedly Chelsea’s best player at the moment and easily the best in the Premier League.

The Belgium international has been a defenders nightmare all season long with his ability to get past defenders and help create chances for The Blues.

Goals, assists and his incredible hunger to win has meant Hazard has been crucial to Chelsea and him winning the PFA Player of the Year sums up how good he has been.

What makes a top player? Consistency. Hazard has that.

2. Newcomers

Jose Mourinho knew what Chelsea needed and he went out and sorted it.

Several sales aided the Summer spending spree but it was mainly Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa that have made the difference this year.

Chelsea would have probably won the title last year if they had a clinical striker, but sadly for Mourinho, they didn’t. After losing Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o, The Blues signed Costa and also brought in Fabregas.

The two formed a deadly partnership and were instrumental from the start until December.

1. Complete Strike Force

Having one Premier League proven striker is brilliant, but when you have two it massively helps.

As well as having two known strikers in England, when your Summer signing hits the ground running with goals, you know you are in with a chance.

Costa set the Premier League alight and with Loic Remy and Didier Drogba alongside him, there was plenty of attacking options for Chelsea.

Drogba’s experience must have helped Costa, whilst Remy’s influence from the substitute bench helped change several games in The Blues’ favour.

So there are the six main reasons behind Chelsea’s title win. Would you agree?
