Liverpool’s fierce rivals Manchester United have reportedly joined the race for the Anfield contract rebel Raheem Sterling.
The England international recently turned down £100,000-a-week to extend his current deal in Merseyside, which could be a factor in him leaving for a reported £50 million.
This has attracted interest from fellow Premier League clubs Manchester City and Chelsea, but the strongest links have been with Arsenal and Manchester United.
Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers said: “He’s a young boy who is still learning on and off the field, but I don’t think there was anything derogatory to Liverpool in terms of what he said.”
He also added: “I know he loves being here, loves the club and I expect him to perform at a high level. If it was a different player I would maybe have something to think about.”
Despite claiming he was ‘flattered’ by interest from Arsenal, the 20-year old Sterling will play against the Gunners today; a huge match in terms of the top four.
