Steve Bruce is considering quitting football altogether after walking away from Hull City on Friday.
He quit the newly-promoted club after his relationship with chairman Ehab Allam. And, despite being in the running for the England job before Sam Allardyce was appointed, his departure could see him call time on four decades in football.
A three-time Premier League and FA Cup-winner as a player, he revealed: “My biggest regret is having to walk away from Hull, but it was a decision I had to make for the sake of the club.
“The last 12 months have been very tough and it felt like the right step for the club to move forward in a different direction and with someone else in charge.
“I desperately wanted to make it work this summer and to be a Premier League manager again. Sadly, it wasn’t to be but I’ve left Hull City with some fantastic memories.”
Bruce is the club’s most successful-ever manager, twice leading the Tigers into the top flight and also guiding them to the 2014 FA Cup final, where they lost 3-2 to Arsenal.
He quit less than two months after the Championship play-off final victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley sealed an automatic return to the big-time following relegation 12 months ago.
