Steven Gerrard is confident Alfredo Morelos will remain at Rangers despite interests from some European clubs. Rangers boss is hoping the Columbian youngster commits his future to the club by agreeing to a new contract.

Bordeaux are very eager to take the player back to France but recently saw their £3.75m bid rejected by the Scottish giants. Morelos had a rather nervy start to his Rangers career but he first caught the eye against Dunfermline in the League cup where he scored a brace to announce his arrival.

The Columbian international then went on to make his own mark in the top flight following his arrival from HJK Helsinki last summer. He signed a new contract earlier this year only but the Gers are ready to fend off any suitors by offering him a new deal.

Gerrard said, “I’m delighted for Alfredo. He’s a very confident player anyway, he always believes he can deliver so it was no surprise for me to see him get a call-up.

“He has been in fantastic form and we are all delighted for him. We hope he can go away and do himself justice and I believe that he will.

“Yes, there has been progress with regards a new contract, we’ll have to wait and see how that pan out.

“But he is in talks, it’s on-going. We’re hoping there is some good news to report soon.”
