Gus Poyet is still trying to secure the signature of Fabio Borini however the Sunderland boss can’t come to an agreement with Liverpool over a fee for the Italian forward. Borini spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, putting in a number of good performances and helping Sunderland on their way to Premier League survival.

Borini has impressed Poyet who wants the stiker on a permanent deal, however Sunderland are not willing to meet Liverpool’s asking price. Liverpool want £12 million for Borini whereas Sunderland want to pay £8 million with a further £2 million in add ons.

Sunderland may feel they have the upper hand over Liverpool as Borini wants regular first team football next season, something that the forward will find hard to come by at Anfield. Sunderland are also in talks with Matt Beasler after the defender impressed during the USA’s World Cup run.

However having held talks over a £3 million move for the 27 year old a move looks unlikely as Davide Astori of Cagliari is an alternative option for the Black Cats.
