Controversial chairman Vincent Tan has told Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay to resign from the club…..or face the sack, in an extrodinary turn of events at the South Wales club, with Vincent Tan in complete control of the club.
Tan had critisised the Scottish manager in the past week, after it emerged that the Malaysian was ‘ Very Upset ‘ that Mackay was planning to spend in the January transfer window, with Tan claiming that the Welsh side will not have any financial backing.
On the same day that the club statement was released, Mackay received an email from Tan that listed the owner’s grievances across a number of areas, including the club’s activity in the transfer market in the summer and the team’s style of play, despite some very impressive results of recent late in the Barclays Premier League.
A Cardiff spokesman said:
“The club is not party to any letter sent from one person to another.”
Mackay confirmed earlier in the week that he would stay in his post as Cardiff City manager, and he would NOT be resigning from the recently promoted side, but today’s rather bizzare event may make his position at the club intenable, with Tan making ruthless decisions of recent late.
Mackay was upset with the sacking of his close friend, and club chief executive, Ian Moody, who was responsable of most of Cardiff’s steller signings, including Garay Medel, Steven Caulker and Peter Odemwingie.
The 41-year-old former Watford manager is minded to carry on and pursue Premier League survival – his objective at the start of the season. Mackay would be due a significant sum if his contract is terminated by Tan.
Mackay is set to attend the pre match press conference, ahead of the Bluebirds clash against Liverpool, were he will pick his wits against another close friend, Brendan Rodgers, with Rodgers also coming out in support of Mackay, and slamming Tan’s recent decisions.
The latest development is in keeping with a bizarre season, when the club’s return to the top flight for the first time in 51 years has been overshadowed by off-field events, made by Tan, on a regular basis.
Mackay has been a recent managerial target for the vacent post at West Bromwich Albion in recent weeks.
