Arsenal hate Chelsea, Chelsea hate Arsenal.

That’s just how it is – whilst most fans of both sides would site their hatred for Tottenham as stronger, these two sides and sets of fans have never seen eye to eye.

Despite this, they have had over the years, especially in the Premier League era – some incredible showdowns.

Here are our TOP 10 Premier League era clashes between Chelsea and Arsenal!

NUMBER 10 – CHELSEA 3-5 ARSENAL, OCT 2011

An eight-goal thriller that epitomised both teams’ 2011/12 campaigns. Chelsea, under Andre Villas-Boas, were a shambles – constantly playing with a high line, something that Robin van Persie exploited.

NUMBER 8 – 8. ARSENAL 2-0 CHELSEA, MAY 2002

An FA Cup final famous for two outstanding goals, one from Ray Parlour seconds after Chelsea fan Tim Lovejoy uttered the now-infamous words: “It’s only Ray Parlour.”

NUMBER 7 – CHELSEA 2-2 ARSENAL, SEP 2000

Silvinho saved Arsenal at Stamford Bridge to rescue a late point as Arsenal once again staged a comeback from 2-0 down. Goals either side of the break from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Zola had put the west Londoners in command, before Thierry Henry halved the deficit 15 minutes from time.

NUMBER 6 – 5. CHELSEA 3-1 ARSENAL, FEB 1998

Chelsea had sacked manager Ruud Gullit just days before, and went into this League Cup semi-final second leg 2-1 down from the first leg at Highbury.

New player-manager Gianluca Vialli would mastermind a stunning comeback in his first game in charge, ending Arsenal’s 12-game unbeaten run.

NUMBER 5 – CHELSEA 2-3 ARSENAL, OCT 1999

Chelsea thought they had the game all sewn up shortly after half-time when Petrescu added to Tore Andre Flo’s goal six minutes before the interval. But Arsenal’s Nigerian savior Nwankwo Kanu had other ideas.

Winterburn came up with a stunner from 30 yards in the 88th minute of this clash, handing Arsenal a huge victory over their London rivals.

NUMBER 3 – CHELSEA 2-1 ARSENAL, FEB 1991

In a tight match, Chelsea seized control in the second half thanks largely to Nigel Winterburn having an absolute shocker of a day, much different to the before mentioned game where he grabbed Arsenal the winner.

NUMBER 2 – ARSENAL 5-2 CHELSEA, APR 1979

Struggling Chelsea visited Highbury towards the end of the 1978/79 season knowing defeat would send them down, and ultimately they were victims of a superior Gunners side.

NUMBER 1 – CHELSEA 6 0 ARSENAL, MAR 2014

Arsene Wengers 1000th game in charge ended with Chelsea’s biggest victory over the Gunners.

Arsenal were two behind after seven minutes, with first Samuel Eto’o and then Andre Schurrle benefiting from clinical Chelsea counter-attacking.

Eden Hazard’s penalty after a Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain handball all but finished the match as a contest.

Oscar scored twice before Mohamed Salah inflicted more pain on the Gunners.

Substitute Salah’s strike completed a miserable afternoon for the visitors, who appeared to have the wrong player sent off when Kieran Gibbs was shown the red card, following Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first-half handball.

It was Jose Mourinho’s biggest Premier League victory as Chelsea manager and also the first time in Chelsea’s history that they have scored six times against their London rivals.
