Starting of the list of Top 10 Biggest Money Losing Transfers in Football History is Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The winger is currently playing for Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League, although playing is a stretch as he’s only featured twice this season for the relegated side.

Wright-Phillips made the list following his transfer from Chelsea to Manchester City back in 2005 and the deal cost them roughly £21million. However, after struggling to cement a first-team spot, Wright-Phillips was then sold back to Manchester City for just £8.5m.

That meant Chelsea made a loss of £12.5 million.

9. Alberto Aquilani –  £13 million Loss

Number 9 in the list is Alberto Aquilani.

Currently playing for Italian side Fiorentina in Serie A, Aquilani makes the list after Liverpool splashed out £20million on signing him from AS Roma. However, after failing to impress during his time at Anfield, the Premier League side then sold him back to Italy for just £7m.

Liverpool made a loss of £13 million after selling him back in 2012.

However, after struggling with life in England, Robinho swiftly left the club and move to AC Milan for just £15m, meaning the Premier League side made a loss of £17m.

6. Jo –  £18 million Loss

Coming in at number-6 is another failed Manchester City signing.

Brazilian footballer Jo joined Manchester City from CSKA Moscow in 2008 for £18 million but things did not go as planned as he saw himself going out on loans for the majority of his career in Manchester.

Manchester City eventually making a loss £18 million.

Carroll was shipped out on loan to West Ham United before they made the deal permanent for just £15m.

A £20m loss for The Reds.
