Which players have the most Premier League appearances?

With the 2014/2015 Premier League campaign over, it’s time to look back and what better way than to look at the most capped Premier League players of all time.

SillySeason are now taking a look into some of the footballers that have played the most games in England’s top-flight with the number-one guy playing nearly 700 times in the Premier League.

This is the perfect article to read for you football quiz lovers as this will almost certainly come up, so sit back and take a look into the top-10 most capped Premier League players.

Lets begin!

10. Gareth Barry   – 562 Games

Kicking us off is Gareth Barry. 

Barry is a former England International football player who made his name at Aston Villa before completing a big-money move to Manchester City.

After spending twelve years at Villa Park, Barry took the jump and joined Manchester City, after choosing to snub Liverpool, where he went on to win the FA Cup and the Premier League during the 2011/12 season.

Barry so far has made 562 Premier League appearances scoring a total of 50 goals and he is currently playing for Merseyside team, Everton.

9. Nigel Winterburn   – 563 Games

The former England International Nigel Winterburn is next on our list of the Top 10 Players with Most Premier League Appearances with a total of 563 premier league games.

Winterburn, who is now 51-years-old started his career at Wimbledon in the Football League before going on to play for Arsenal Football Club and West Ham United in the Premier League.

Winterburn had the best of his career at Arsenal, winning the FA Cup, European Cup Winners Cup and a Premier League title.

In total, the defender went on to make 429 Premier League appearances.

8. John Lukic – 566 Games

Next on our list is the former England Goalkeeper John Lukic with a total of 566 appearances.

Jovan “John” Lukic played for Leeds United and Arsenal F.C during his football career, and was one of few players that made the transfer twice.

Lukic started at Leeds before moving to Arsenal, and then shockingly went back to Leeds, before then ending his career back at Arsenal.

In total he went on to make 566 appearances.

7. David James – 571 Games

David James is a former-English professional football player who made a total of 571 Premier League appearances after playing for several English Clubs as a goalkeeper.

James started his career in Watford before joining Liverpool F.C and after his Anfield career, he then featured for; Aston VillaWest Ham United, Manchester City and lastly Portsmouth.

James is one of the most capped goalkeepers of all-time and now works as a pundit for BT Sport.

6. Neville Southall – 578 Games

In descending order, Neville sits sixth in the list of the Top 10 Players with Most Premier League Appearances.

Southall is a Welsh former international footballer who made a total of 578 Premier League appearances as a goalkeeper for Everton Football Club.

The goalkeeper was an Everton player from 1982 until 1998, though he had three loan spells away from Goodison Park at Port Vale in 1982-83 season, Southend United in the Second Division and in the First Division for Stoke City during the 1997-98 season.

5. Peter Shilton – 599 Games

The former English Footballer Peter Leslie Shilton made a total of 599 Premier League appearances.

The 65-year-old goalkeeper started his football career as a Leicester City player where he made 286 appearances and even more surprisingly, he managed to score a goal during his time there during their 5-1 win against Southampton.

Shilton spent eight years at Leicester and over his illustrious career, he went on to make 599 appearances in England’s top-flight.

4. David Seaman – 607 Games

David Andrew Seaman is another former English goalkeeper to make it to our list and he sits in fourth with a total of 607 games to his name.

The 51-year-old played for numerous English Clubs but really made his name during his time at Arsenal F.C. He made 405 appearances during his time at The Gunners, where he won the FA Cup, the Premier Leauge, League Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup before being released.

Seaman ended his playing career at Manchester City where he retired from football having made only nineteen appearances for City. 

3. Frank Lampard – 609 Games

The 36-year-old English Professional footballer is now the third player with the most Premier League appearances with a total of 609 games.

Lampard started his career in West Ham United, scoring twenty four goals in 148 games for The Hammers, though during his first season at West Ham, he got a loan spell to Swansea City where he made nine appearances.

In 2001, Lampard move to Chelsea Football Club which is where he made most of his Premier League appearances having spent thirteen years at the club.

However, last Summer Lampard left Stamford Bridge and agreed to join MLS side New York City, but ended up spending the 2014/2015 season on loan at Manchester City.

The midfielder is now set to fly out to America to finally begin his MLS career.

2. Gary Speed – 614 Games

In number two of our list it’s Gary Speed, the former Welsh Footballer and Manager.

Speed started his football career at Leeds United, where he had his best peak of his football career before joining Everton F.C.

At Leeds United, Speed was selected in the PFA Team of the Year for the 1992-93 season, before eventually joining Everton.

The midfielder then spent time at Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United.

Sadly, Gary Speed died on 27 November 2011 

1. Ryan Giggs – 672 Games

And finally the top player with most Premier League appearances is the 41-year-old Ryan Joseph Giggs, who played for just one club during his whole professional football career.

At Manchester United the winger made 672 Premier League appearances and scored a total of 114 goals.

Giggs is the only Premier League player to have made over six hundred and fifty appearances and the only player to have scored a hundred goals in the Premier League without a hat-trick.

Giggsy, as he is known, is now United’s assistant manager to Louis Van Gaal after spending four games as interim manager due to David Moyes being sacked at the end of last season.
