To compete at the highest level of football, you have to train hard, eat well and stay in shape. But some footballers managed to get away with being slightly on the large side while still playing.

Here is a list of the fat footballers who were dreadfully overweight during their careers.
Known as ‘Fat Frank’, Lampard is one footballer famous for being overweight. He was a top player for Chelsea, and fans were devastated when he left. The crazy thing is he was never actually that fat!
One of the greatest player of all time, but he’s put on some real weight since retiring and throughout his managerial career. He was never that fat during his playing career, but since…things have changed.
Fans used to sing, “Andy Reid, He Plays Left Wing, He Loves McDonalds & Burger King” during his time at Sunderland. However, since then he has slimmed down and retired last year after making 119 appearances for Nottingham Forest.
During his time at Real Madrid, Italian Antonio Cassano was fined by the club for his unhealthy lifestyle that lead to him putting on weight. He was put on a dieting programme and the system worked, he slimmed right back down.

Puskas had an incredible career as a striker, winning 3 European Cups. However, after his playing career he became a manager and put on loads of weight. He wasn’t quite as successful when a manager.
He inherited ‘fat’ Ronaldo’s no.9 jersey after he retired for Brazil, but his football ability was no where near the same. All that happened was that he inherited the weight issues instead, and he became a really fat footballer!
Despite looking almost double his age these days, McNulty is just 32 and has spent his entire career as a professional defender. McNulty is just 30 in the picture above!
One of the earliest ‘fat footballers’! Foulke played for England during the years 1894 and 1907, he was over 6ft tall and weighed over 24 stone. The world’s first ‘who ate all the pies’ chant was sung at Foulke.
One of the best players ever, and despite some dodgy haircuts in his time, he was world-class but started to put on weight later on his career. He was actually labelled ‘Fat Ronaldo’ in his later years, him and Adriano were peas in a pod.
