10) Paul Robinson

Paul Robinson made 41 appearances!

He kept four clean sheets in five games in the 2006 World Cup but following the tournament, he came up with many errors. The most memorable one being the Gary Neville back pass against Croatia.

9) Peter Bonetti

Peter Bonetti played for Chelsea for 18 years!

He was nicknamed ‘The Cat’ for his famous reflex actions and he had an enormous throw. He even won the Winners Cup with the Blues in 1971.

8) David James

David James is one of England’s most capped keepers!

Gordon Banks and David Seaman also backed James to be the first-choice keeper at the 2010 World Cup. He also became the oldest ever World Cup debutant and the oldest player at that year’s tournament.

7) Joe Hart

Joe Hart has been a regular in the England set up for a while now and has made over 60 appearances!

His performances for Manchester City in the last couple of years have established himself as the best England keeper within the last decade.

6) Ron Springett

Ron Springett made 33 appearances for England!

He also was part of the 1966 World Cup winning side but didn’t actually play due to being understudy for Gordon Banks but a reliable keeper nonetheless.

5) Chris Woods

Woods played understudy to Peter Shilton for most of his international career but still managed to make a great name for himself in the process.

He eventually succeeded Shilton despite tough competition from a young David Seaman! Woods kept 26 clean sheets for England from 43 caps.

4) Ray Clemence

Out of 61 appearances, Ray Clemence managed to keep 27 clean sheets!

He endured a 12-year long Three Lions career and was eventually awarded an MBE for his services to football.

3) David Seaman

David Seaman’s impressive international career saw him become the most capped England keeper ever while keeping second most clean sheets!

Seaman made his debut back in 1988 and went on to set a national record of 15 years of consecutive appearances.

2) Peter Shilton

Peter Shilton made 125 appearances for the Three Lions and is the most capped English international footballer ever!

He has a clean sheet percentage of 52.8 per cent – an astonishing record given the number of games played.

The keeper also set a record of 10 successive clean sheets, which has only been matched by Frenchman and former Manchester United star Fabien Barthez.

1) Gordon Banks

Regarded as one of the best goalkeepers to have played professionally, Banks is by far the best that has ever played for England!

Banks played a key role in England’s World Cup triumph in 1966, keeping four clean sheets in the competition.

He has 73 caps for England and 35 clean sheets. Banks’ most famous moment was an incredible save to deny Brazil legend Pele!
