Who have made the most Chelsea appearances?

After winning the 2014/2015 Premier League title, SillySeason wanted to look into who are the top-10 most capped Chelsea players of all time.

The Blues strolled to yet another league title under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, and will be strong favourites to retain the title next season.

With a lot of fans saying Chelsea don’t have a history before Roman Abramovich, we wanted to give Chelsea some credit and look into their top-10 most capped players.

So sit back and read through the list of Chelsea players who have made the most appearances for the West London club.

10. Eddie McCreadie    – 410 Appearances

Starting the list is a Scottish left-back who made over 400 appearances for The Blues.

McCreadie was at Chelsea from 1962 to 1973 and went on to make 410 appearances for the club, with 331 of those coming in league football, where he scored four goals.

McCreadie then later went on to manage Chelsea from 1975 to 1977.

9. Kerry Dixon – 420 Appearances

At number 9 is a former-striker for Chelsea.

Kerry Dixon played for the London outfit for nine years where he went on to make 420 first-team appearances.

Dixon was at the club from 1983 to 1992, scoring 147 league goals in the process.

8. Steve Clarke – 421 Appearances

Quite a recent player and former-coach comes in at number eight.

Steve Clarke made 421 appearances for Chelsea and then went on to be a coach at Stamford Bridge before being the first-team manager for West Bromwich Albion and now Reading.

Clarke was at the club from 1987 to 1998, where he made 330 league appearances and 421 overall.

7. Dennis Wise – 445 Appearances

Another recent player in Chelsea’s history makes the list at number seven.

Dennis Wise was a much loved character at the club after he made 445 appearances for the club from 1990 until 2001. The midfielder was an influential player for The Blues during his 11-year stint and he helped guide them to six trophies, including two FA Cups.

After retiring in 2006, Wise tried his hand at managing, but he failed at both Swindon Town and Leeds United.

6. Petr Cech – 445 Appearances

A current player at Stamford Bridge, although it’s looking likely that he will leave this Summer, comes in at number six.

Petr Cech. A real club legend at Chelsea and their number-one shot stopper for over a decade. Sadly for Cech he was replaced for this season by Thibaut Courtois and due to his age, he is now ready to leave the club in order to play regular first-team football.

445 appearances for the club in total makes him a real club legend.

5. John Terry – 586 Appearances

Mr Chelsea.

From the youth set-up to the first-team to captaincy. John Terry has done it all for Chelsea Football Club and is probably the biggest legend they will ever have.

Still at the club and still playing on a regular basis, this tally will certainly increase over the next few seasons until he finally calls it a day.

Jose Mourinho’s return to Chelsea has done wonders for Terry’s career which looked like it was nearing it’s end at one point.

He played every minute of the Premier League campaign this season.

4. John Hollins – 592 Appearances

Another historic player for Chelsea comes in at fourth.

John Hollins played for Chelsea in the 60s and 70s, making just shy of 600 appearances for the club in his eight year spell there.

However, he then had a second stint at the club two decades later as he returned in 1983 for another season at the club.

Overall, the full-back made 592 appearances over his two spells.

3. Frank Lampard – 648 Appearances

Another legend of not only Chelsea, but football in general.

Frank Lampard will sadly be leaving the Premier League this Summer and surprisingly ended his England career with Manchester City after spending a season on loan there.

However, he will forever be a Chelsea legend after making over 600 appearances for the club.

He is also the club’s highest ever goalscorer, which is an incredible achievement considering he’s a centre-midfielder.

Lampard is now set to start his MLS venture for New York City.

2. Peter Bonetti – 729 Appearances

Coming in as runner-up is Peter Bonetti.

Another player who had two stints at Chelsea Football Club and another player who went on to make hundreds of appearances for the club.

His first stint came in the 60s, where he spent 15 years at the club until he left in 1975. However, he then returned in 1976 where he went on to spend a further three years at the club.

1. Ron Harris – 795 Appearances

Nearly 800 appearances for Chelsea. A club legend.

Ron Harris made all his caps for Chelsea from 1961 to 1980. 19 years at the club and 800 appearances. A real club legend.

After leaving Chelsea, he only went on to play for five more years, with spells at Brentford and Aldershot.

His appearance record will take some beating.
