Most own-goals in Premier League history

Who has been guilty of scoring the most own-goals in Premier League history? We’ve all been there. Accidentally putting the ball into the wrong net, but lets spare a thought for these 10 players who have done it the most time in Premier League history.

Scoring one own-goal is bad enough, but could you imagine scoring 10 in your career?! Well someone has!

Top-10 Most Own-Goals in Premier League

Lets take a look into the top-10 most own-goals in Premier League history!

10. Frank Sinclair    – 5 Own Goals

Kicking off the list is former-Chelsea player, Frank Sinclair.

The Jamaican international played for The Blues for eight-years, starting in 1990 and ending his association in 1998 in order to move to Leicester City.

During those eight years, Sinclair made 169 Premier League appearances and scored seven goals. However, he also netted five in the wrong next.

9. Scott Dann    – 5 Own Goals

Next on the list is another defender who has scored five own goals, but this guy has a chance to add to that tally.

Scott Dann currently plays for Crystal Palace in the Premier League and has made just shy of 50 league appearances since joining back in 2014.

However, he has previously played in the top-flight with Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers, and throughout his career, he has scored five own-goals.

8. Martin Skrtel    – 5 Own Goals

Another current centre-back and another one who has scored five own-goals.

Martin Skrtel is labelled as one of the better centre-backs in the Premier League and has been a solid part of the Liverpool back-line. Although they come under criticism fairly often, Skrtel is ever present in the heart of the defence.

However, with responsibility sometimes comes errors and this defender is known to slip-up a fair bit. However, he only makes it to eighth on this list.

7. Henning Berg    – 5 Own Goals

A rather old-school player now as Henning Berg takes seventh spot with, yes you guessed it, five own-goals.

The former-Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United defender played from the early 90s until 2004, but during his stint in England, he managed to put the ball into the wrong next five times.

Berg then spent time as manager at Ewood Park, but sadly for him, it didn’t work out.

6. Derek Mountfield    – 6 Own Goals

Finally someone on six own-goals.

Derek Mountfield played back in the 80s and is most know for his times at Everton and Aston Villa where throughout he managed to score six own-goals.

No surprises that it’s another defender either.

5. Phil Jagielka    – 6 Own Goals

Another Everton centre-back makes the list and it’s long-serving captain Phil Jagielka.

The 32-year-old still has time to add to this unwanted tally, but during his 242 Premier League appearances for the club, he’s been the guilty party six times.

Jagielka has been at Goodison Park for eight-years now and is deemed a club legend, despite his six own-goals.

4. Rio Ferdinard    – 6 Own Goals

What a centre-back.

Rio Ferdinand will go down as one of the Premier League’s best ever centre-backs and also created one of the best partnerships as well alongside Nemanja Vidic, but that hasn’t stopped him from netting six own goals.

Stints at West Ham United, Manchester United and most recently Queens Park Rangers, the veteran has built himself quite a career.

However, his playing days are nearing it’s end after QPR were relegated to the Champions this season.

3. Wes Brown    – 6 Own Goals

Wes Brown. Hero. Icon.

Made at Manchester United, currently playing for Sunderland. What an ever-present centre-back he’s been throughout the years but with six own-goals to his name, he comes in at third.

Quite a successful defender throughout his career, with numerous winners medals from his time at Old Trafford, Brown’s playing days are nearing it’s final chapter but he still has time to add to this list.

2. Zat Knight    – 7 Own Goals

35-year-old Zat Knight comes in as runner-up with seven Premier League own-goals.

Famous for his Fulham, Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers days, Knight has been a solid defender throughout the Premier League era, making well over 300 appearances in the top-flight.

However, during those games, he’s been a guilty man seven times for scoring disastrous own-goals.

1. Richard Dunne    – 10 Own Goals

It’s never nice finishing first in a top-1o list when you don’t actually want to be champion.

Sadly Richard Dunne, you take up our number-one spot with TEN own-goals.

The 35-year-old has been in the Premier League since 1996, but really made his name during his Manchester City career, before they had a lot of money, where he spent nine years and made just shy of 300 league appearances.

Now at QPR, Dunne is still going strong but is still the flat-out winner for the player with most Premier League own-goals.
