10 Best Premier League comebacks

Over the weekend we focused on Top-10 Champions League Comebacks, but now it’s time to look into the best comebacks in the Premier League!

There were some memorable games in the Champions League, but my word there are some incredible matches from the English Premier League and today we are going to take you back to some of those unforgettable matches. Some of them are the biggest comeback in Premier League history.

10 Classic Premier League Comebacks

The Premier League is often called the greatest league in football and with these following 10 games, it’s easy to see why. We are going to take a look at 10 classic Premier League Combacks and some of them are amoung the best comebacks in Premier League history. So, no more chatting and introducing, it’s time to look back at some of the best ever comebacks in Premier League history. Starting at number-10.

10. Norwich 4-4 Middlesbrough

We start our journey back in 2005. Norwich City were playing Middlesbrough in the Premier League at Carrow Road and they shared eight goals between them.

It was the hosts that actually took the lead, but Middlesbrough hit back with four goals without reply to give themselves a 4-1 lead with just 10-minutes remaining.

Dean Ashton gave The Canaries hope in the 80th minute, making the score 4-2 before Leon McKenzie made it 4-3 in the 90th minute.

Was that goal too late for Norwich? No.

Adam Drury popped up in stoppage time to give Norwich the shares of the points and end the game 4-4.

9. Tottenham 4-4 Aston Villa

Two years after Norwich 4-4 Middlesbrough came Tottenham Hotspur 4-4 Aston Villa.

The game at White Hart Lane took a similar pattern to the Norwich/Boro game. Spurs took the lead but then the visitors, Villa on this occasion, scored four without reply giving themselves a 4-1 lead.

However, with 20-minutes left, Pascal Chimbonda gave Spurs hope and a Robbie Keane penalty with eight minutes left put the game in the balance.

It was then a 90th minute equaliser from Younes Kaboul that completed the comeback as Spurs somehow left with a point.

8. Bolton 2-3 Arsenal

Bolton Wanderers were so often Arsenal’s bogey team. The Gunners simply couldn’t win at The Reebok Stadium.

In 2008, it looked like that streak was going to continue as The Trotters went into half-time with a 2-0 lead thanks to a Matthew Taylor brace.

However, the second-half was completely different.

Goals from William Gallas and Robin Van Persie in the 62nd and 68th minute respectively drew Arsenal level before a Samuel own-goal in stoppage time completed the stunning turnaround.

7. Arsenal 4-4 Tottenham

Another 4-4 epic and this time it was in the North London derby as Arsenal played host to Tottenham Hotspur.

This time around however, it was the visitors that took the lead, before The Gunners came back with goals from Mikael Silvestre, William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Darren Bent managed to make it 3-2, before Robin Van Persie restored Arsenal’s two-goal lead just a minute later.

However, goals from Jermaine Jenas in the 89th minute and Aaron Lennon in the 90th minute saw Spurs somehow grab a point off their local-rivals.

Epic match.

6. Leicester 5-3 Manchester United

You don’t have to go back far to remember this game. In fact, it came last season.

Leicester City 5-3 Manchester United.

As expected, United got themselves a 3-1 lead away at the King Power Stadium, before a stunning comeback shocked Louis Van Gaal’s men.

Five minutes after taking a 3-1 lead, United were pegged back to 3-2 when David Nugent scored for the hosts. Two minutes after that, it was 3-3.

With just 11-minutes remaining, Leicester completed the comeback as they made it 4-3 thanks to Jamie Vardy and then with minutes remaining, the cherry was added to the cake when Leonardo Ulloa netted his second and The Foxes fifth.

5. Arsenal 5-2 Tottenham

Which 5-2 do you want to go into? Yes it happened twice in the space of a year, but I think the first one was the best one when Spurs took a 2-0 lead before losing five goals to their local-rivals.

Gareth Bale and Emmanuel Adebayor had put the visitors 2-0 up at the Emirates Stadium, but Bacary Sagna and Robin Van Persie drew the hosts level just before half-time.

Tomas Rosicky then made it 3-2 before a Theo Walcott brace made it five for Arsenal.

A stunning comeback against their local-rivals.

4. Man City 3-2 QPR

Surely you haven’t forgotten this one?

Manchester City had to win to win the Premier League title for their first-time ever. They somehow found themselves 2-1 down at home to lowly Queens Park Rangers.

The game entered stoppage time and with Manchester United beating Sunderland, it looked like City had thrown away their chance.

However, Edin Dzeko made them dream again by equalising in stoppage time, before Sergio Aguero created history and finished off the most epic title-decider ever.

City 3-2 QPR and their first-ever Premier League title.

3. Liverpool 3-3 Man Utd

You have to go back along way to remember this game, but what a game it was and between two fierce rivals.

Manchester United looked certain of the three points as they stormed to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Steve Bruce, Ryan Giggs and Denis Irwin.

However, Liverpool gave themselves hope by clawing back two goals before half-time thanks to Nigel Clough.

Comeback was then completed with 11-minutes remaining that to Neil Ruddock.

Most games between United and Liverpool are memorable, but this is well up there.

2. Tottenham 3-5 Man Utd

Back in 2001, Tottenham Hotspur were in dreamland. They were 3-0 up at half-time against Manchester United.

45-minutes later, they were witnessing a 5-3 defeat. Astonishing.

Dean Richards, Les Ferdinand and Christian Ziege put the hosts 3-0 up and saw them set for the second-half, however it all went wrong for Spurs at White Hart Lane in a memorable 45-minute collapse.

Andy Cole, Laurent Blanc, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Juan Sebastian Veron and David Beckham all scored for The Red Devils in the second-half giving United the three points and leaving White Hart Lane stunned and silenced.

However, a 3-0 lead at half-time isn’t the biggest margin thrown away…..

 1. Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal

….Enter Newcastle United vs Arsenal. The best Premier League comeback of all-time.

In 2011, The Gunners went to St James Park and caused all kinds of problems for The Magpies. In fact, The Gunners were 4-0 up inside half an hour.

Theo Walcott, Johan Djourou and a Robin Van Persie brace gave the visitors a 4-0 lead. Three of those goals came inside 10-minutes.

However the second-half was a different story.

Two Joey Barton penalties either side of a Leon Best goal put Newcastle back in the game at 4-3 and then in the 87th minute, Chieck Tiote completed the outstanding comeback with a stunning volley from outside the box.

Newcastle went on to nearly win the game but just couldn’t net the fifth goal.

Remarkable game. Never to be forgotten.
