SillySeason list their 10 players in the Premier League

Top-10 Premier League Footballers

With the 2015/2016 campaign just under a month away, SillySeason are going to do a nearly impossible task. We are going to list our top-10 players in the league.

Now this article will probably cause an outrage within a lot of fans because we all know, football is a game of opinions, but after much discussion between our writers, we have put together a list of the top-10.

Everyone will have their own list and their own opinions on who should make the list, but we have put together our version and you guys can comment your list in the comment selection below.

So no more need for introductions, it’s time to get into the list starting with number-10.

10) Nemanja Matic – Chelsea

It’s always difficult to win applauds when you don’t score goals or make assists, but throughout the 2014/2015 campaign, Nemanja Matic certainly stamped his name on our list.

The defensive midfielder was vital for Chelsea during their title-winning campaign and without him in the heart of the midfield, things could have been a lot different for The Blues.

He’s as solid as a rock, but he can also spread the ball around the park brilliantly as well. He quickly developed an understanding with Cesc Fabregas and the duo became formidable in the heart of the midfield.

Every team in the Premier League needs that strong, hard-hitting midfielder in order to protect the back-line and allow more flair players in front of him do the damage.

When you have Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian ahead of you, it’s pretty easy to sit back and hold the formation.

9) Laurent Koscielny – Arsenal

Similar to Nemanja Matic, it’s tricky for a centre-back to win the appraisal they often deserve, but not on our list.

Laurent Koscielny is arguably one of the best central defenders in the Premier League and probably in Europe. He’s been tracked by FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in recent years so that tells you something.

If you regularly watch Arsenal, the difference between them with and without Koscielny is massive.

The team look a lot more solid with the Frenchman, and look almost disastrous without him.

His partnership with Per Mertesacker has developed over the years and the mixture of pace and power helps the duo keep attackers at bay.

8) Hugo Lloris – Tottenham Hotspur

Legends of the game always say you need a class ‘keeper if you want to be successful.

Hugo Lloris is easily Spurs‘ best player and they will do very well to keep him long-term if they continue to fail in their pursuit of Champions League football.

Tottenham finished fifth last season and could have lost the Frenchman this summer, but a broken wrist has him on the sidelines meaning he’d fail any medical he underwent.

Lloris’ shot-stopping ability is top class and he commands his penalty area very well. A leader from the back and a match-winner.

7) Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea

The best right-back in the Premier League comes it at number-seven.

Branislav Ivanovic doesn’t look like a right-back and doesn’t look like he should be good at the right-back role, but somehow he is top quality.

The Serb started out as a centre-back, but with John Terry and Gary Cahill an unbreakable partnership, Ivanvoic had to adapt to a new position and adapt he did.

Brilliant at defending, but also nifty going forward and weighs in with the odd goal or two per season.

6) David De Gea – Manchester United

The best goalkeeper in the Premier League, but for how long?

David De Gea arrived in England fragile and a slim-figure. During his first-season he was bullied in his own box and made several high-profile errors.

However, he learnt from that and has since bulked up and developed into one of the world’s greatest shot-stoppers.

Heavily linked with a return to Spain with Real Madrid interested, the Premier League could be saying goodbye to one of their best players.

5) John Terry – Chelsea

No matter what your personal feelings about the guy are, you cannot discredit his ability on the pitch.

Despite his age, John Terry is still the best centre-back in the Premier League and is still vital to Chelsea‘s success.

A few years ago it looked like his career was coming to an end, but after the return of Jose Mourinho, Terry‘s form picked up and he’s been a rock ever since.

May not have the pace he used to, but his ability to read the game and his knowledge of the game still makes him one of the best defenders in the world.

The old dog still has a few years left yet.

4) Diego Costa – Chelsea

It’s very rare for overseas players to come in to the Premier League and shine during their debut season, but that’s exactly what Diego Costa did.

He may be a nasty piece of work and probably should have been sent off a fair few times last season, but you can’t argue with his ability to score goals.

Costa‘s power, speed and ability to score makes him one of the deadliest strikers in the Premier League and with experience of English football under his belt, next season he could be even better.

Scary thought.

3) Alexis Sanchez – Arsenal

Another star who shined during his debut season in England.

Alexis Sanchez was unstoppable for Arsenal and fired them to FA Cup glory once again and also played a vital role in their third-placed finish in the Premier League.

During the first-half of the season, when Arsenal weren’t performing great, Alexis was carrying his new side with goals, assists and his overall performances.

Similar to Costa, with Premier League experience now under his belt, who knows what next season could bring for the Chilean.

2) Sergio Aguero – Manchester City

Despite missing a lot of last season, Sergio Aguero still finished top goalscorer and took home the Golden Boot.

When fit, Aguero is one of the best strikers in the world and easily the best striker in the Premier League.

He’s fast, he’s strong and he just doesn’t miss when given the chances. It’s vital for City that they keep the Argentine fit for the whole season, and if they do, he could spearhead them to yet another Premier League title.

Aguero will forever be remembered for the most famous Premier League ending ever a few years ago.

AGUEROOOOOOOOOOOO. (Sorry Manchester United fans)

1) Eden Hazard – Chelsea

Surely everyone can agree with this pick?

Eden Hazard is simply stunning. He’s the complete footballer and his performances for Chelsea last season were simple astonishing.

Not only was he top-class, he was top-class for the whole campaign. The consistency the winger shows is unreal and he deservedly took home several individual awards at the end of last season.

A lot of people are saying who would you prefer, Alexis Sanchez or Eden Hazard? Well we are delighted to say both are playing in the Premier League and both make our list.

However, Hazard takes number-one spot for his performances last season.

Honourable Mentions: Mesut Ozil, Philippe Coutinho, Harry Kane, Cesc Fabregas, Wayne Rooney and David Silva.

So there we go. That’s our top-10 list.
