Football is one of the richest sports on the planet, with colossal sums of money being spent on buying clubs, players, hiring managers and paying wages

Here at Silly Season we have compiled the top 10 most valuable football teams in world football. But while there are the obvious candidates for this selection, there are some surprise big clubs that haven’t made the grade.

Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and both AC Milan and Inter Milan do not feature in the top 10, however, three La Liga clubs, four Premier League outfits and just the one from each of Ligue 1, Serie A and the Bundesliga make the list.

Here at the top 10 most valuable clubs in world football.

10) Paris Saint-Germain

The Ligue 1 champions’ value has fallen and leaves them just within the top 10 most valuable clubs in the world, although a current value significantly more than that of Liverpool, whose value stands €378.2 million, compared €420.65 million of PSG.

9) Juventus

Like PSG in Ligue 1, Juventus are dominating Serie A right now and once again are a truly dominant force in Italy and are feeling the benefits of Paul Pogba’s world-record £89 million sale to Manchester United during the summer. Their current value sits at €444 million.

8) Arsenal

It can be of no surprise that Arsenal make it on the list of most valuable clubs in world football, and the only slight shock is that they aren’t higher in this list. The Premier League trophy may have eluded them in recent years, but that hasn’t stopped the ever-present Champions League outfit from attracting some of the world’s best players, like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. Their current value stands at €490.5 million.

7) Atletico Madrid

They may not be as big as their closest La Liga rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona, but they have won the league in recent years and developed a vastly talented bunch of players that has made two Champions League finals in recent years – albeit losing to their locals rivals Real on both occasions. Their current value stands at €509 million.

6) Chelsea

Chelsea may not be in Europe this campaign, but their squad is still filled with world class talent and are not afraid to spend big at all. Their current crop of big-money talent means they are currently valued at €522.30 million.

5) Manchester City

Manchester City’s value is bound to rocket over the coming years, with arguably the best manager on the planet in Pep Guardiola, an endless selection of talent, competing at the very highest levels of the game, and continually looking to bring through their own crop of young talent from their £200 million state-of-the-art academy. City are worth a staggering €524.25 million.

4) Manchester United

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Wayne Rooney, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata, Bastian Schweinsteiger… the endless pit of talent available to Jose Mourinho at Manchester United is incredible. So, to no the surprise of anybody, one of the world’s biggest clubs is towards the top end of this list. The Red Devils are currently valued at €548.25 million.

3) Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are a classy European force with a frightening level of talent, including Franck Ribery, Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben. So there is now wonder their current value stands at €582.25 million.

2) Barcelona

You can most likely guess the last two teams on the list, but we will reveal them anyway. The most surprise aspect about this is that arguably the Catalan giants should be the most valuable team on the planet.

They boast arguably the best attacking trio on the planet, in Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar – on top of an endless list of other world class talents including Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique. Their current value stands at an eye-watering €764.5 million.

1) Real Madrid

Real Madrid really are the money men of world football, as exemplified by their Galacticos and only the very best manage to play for the Spanish giants. To no surprise of anybody, they are the world’s most valuable club at €775.8 million.
