Which games were the ones to watch last season?

Well, England are out of Euro 2016, so we might as well start already start looking the Premier League starting again.

There’s still a long wait until the new league campaign kicks off on August 13th, with a tasty-looking set of opening weekend fixtures.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton will all begin the seasons with new managers, with opening fixtures against Bournemouth, Sunderland, West Ham and Tottenham respectively. Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp will begin his first full season at Anfield away at Arsenal.

But while we wait for all that, let’s think about some of last year’s incredible games. The ‘wow’ games that made it one of the best seasons the Premier League has ever seen. The games that have had memorable moment, or were just non-stop action, here are what we think were the top 5 games of the 2015/16 Premier League season:

Bournemouth 3-3 Everton – 28/11/16

Proof that ‘Fergie time’ is alive and well and living in a sleepy town on the south coast. The most jaw-dropping denouement of the season came after Everton contrived to concede seconds after forging 3-2 ahead deep into injury time at Dean Court. That Junior Stanislas’s equaliser was only made possible by a pitch invasion from Everton fans following their own team’s third goal, which led to more added time, only added to the drama.

Manchester City 1-4 Liverpool – 21/11/16

Liverpool were a club in turmoil following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers, British management’s golden boy less than two years previously, but the arrival of Jurgen Klopp sprinkled stardust over the whole league, not just Liverpool. And this early win at the home of the title favourites helped justify the hype: the visitors’ high-intensity game was far too good for City, who could’ve lost by a lot more.

Chelsea 2-2 Swansea – 8/7/15

The first game of the season for Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge, and it eventually set the tone for the rest of the season for the Champions. Thibaut Courtois was sent off in a 2-2 draw remembered for a shocking moment concerning Jose Mourinho and Chelsea’s team Doctor, Eva Carneiro. Mourinho appeared to lose the backing of his players as the season went on and he was sacked by Christmas.

Manchester City 1-3 Leicester City – 6/2/16

This was the day people started to believe that Leicester could become champions. The Etihad crowd stared in shock as the Foxes put themselves 3-0 up after an hour. Sergio Aguero got a late consolation goal for City, but this was the start of a shocking decline that saw Manchester City drop out of the title race and almost drop out of the top 4, too. It was no coincedence that their collapse in the second half of the season coincided with the announcement that Manuel Pelligrini would depart the club at the end of the season.

Norwich 4-5 Liverpool

An incredible game at Carrow Road, which showcased the best and worst of the Premier League. Liverpool took an 18th-minute lead through Roberto Firmino, before Norwich hit back in stunning style. Goals from Dieumerci Mbokani and Steven Naismith before half-time followed by Wes Hoolahan’s penalty gave the hosts a 3-1 lead and looked to have buried Liverpool. Back came Jurgen Klopp’s team though, and three goals in 20 minutes from Jordan Henderson, Firmino and James Milner made it 4-3 with 15 minutes to go. Sebastian Bassong equalised for Norwich in the 92nd minute, but the drama wasn’t over, and substitute Adam Lallana volleyed home in the 95th minute to settle the match of the season so far. Poor Jurgen even lost his glasses.
