Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on signing Anzhi Makachkala midfielder Willian after the Brazilian is set to undergo a medical in London ahead of his proposed £30million move to White Hart Lane, according to Sky Sports News.

The £30million price means that in this summer transfer period alone, Spurs have smashed their record transfer fee three times.

They first beat it when signing Paulinho from Corinthians for £17million and that was then beaten by the signing of Spaniard Roberto Soldado for £26million.

Now they are set to spend £30million for the first time ever in the club’s history as Andre Villas-Boas re-brands his Tottenham team.

Willian was close to agreeing a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool, but the fact Spurs are in Europe this season, that made a move to North London more appealing.

The Brazilian will be AVB’s fifth signing of the summer as he looks to get Spurs back into Champions League football after two years away.
