Tottenham Hotspur are considering a deal to re-sign former defender Steven Caulker, just a year after he left the club to join Cardiff City.

Caulker has impressed for the Bluebirds, ever since joining the newly promoted side for £8 million, in a move that caught mant supporters off guard.

The defender was sold by Andre Villas Boas, however it appears that Tim Sherwood wants the highly rated centre back at White Hart Lane.

The speculation comes after Jan Vertonghen admitted he may leave if Tottenham fail to qualify for the Champions League, Younes Kaboul has also attracted interest from clubs on the continent.

Vertonghen has been targeted by the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain in recent weeks, as Tottenham look odds on to miss out on a Champions League spot, putting Sherwood’s future in doubt.

Caulker may want a move back to a Premiership club, with his Cardiff side looking doomed to relegation, as they sit 19th in the League, three points off safety.

The defender was a target for Liverpool back in January, with the Londoner an outside bet for a World Cup place.
