The European governing body has decided to take disciplinary action over an ‘illicit’ banner displayed by fans of the German club during their Champions League clash with Arsenal on Tuesday.

The banner displayed a cannon and Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil coupled with the words “Gay Gunners”, and this was picked up by the media and a picture of the banner was spread across Twitter following the 1-1 draw.

UEFA will also investigate “discriminatory behaviour” exhibited by the Bayern fans in addition to a delayed kick-off time, the case will be heard on March 20 by the Control and Disciplinary Body.

Apart from the unfortunate incidents involving the fans, the match itself was not lacking in action as the German giants took a 3-0 lead on aggregate following a Bastian Schweinsteiger goal but Arsenal’s Lukas Podolski levelled the scoring on the night, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the inevitable Arsenal exit.
