SillySeason look into Chelsea’s loaning frenzy

Chelsea are the Premier League team with the most players out on loan, with a staggering 33 being sent to various clubs across Europe.

But the question remains, do any of these players actually have a realistic shot at making a name for themselves in the Chelsea squad, or are they simply seen as business ideas who can be sold on to other clubs for more money?

Lets take a look at just some of the loan deals that have taken place at Chelsea Football Club over the past few months.

The first player that is of importance is January summer signing Juan Cuadrado, who joined the Blues for £24m from Fiorentina.

The Colombian came with an impressive CV, boasting the most assists at the previous summer’s World Cup and four goals already to his name that season in Serie A, however he never quite made the grade at Stamford Bridge despite receiving adequate game time.

The struggle of trying to break the well established Willian out of the team proved too difficult for Cuadrado and he was never really able to get going in a Blues shirt.

This lead to his eventual loan this summer to Serie A champions Juventus, who could help reignite the player’s form and get him back into the sharp state which earned him his Premier League switch.

Though hope appeared to be lost for his Chelsea career with the arrival of Pedro, there could yet be a chance for the Colombian creator to really make an impact and help Jose Mourinho to a successful title defence.

Victor Moses has been sent out for his third loan spell on deadline day as he joined West Ham United on a season-long deal.

The Nigerian joined Chelsea back in 2012 from Wigan Athletic and has been something of a fringe player under Roberto Di Matteo and Jose Mourinho but was a key part of Rafa Benitez‘s Europa League triumph.

However following that season, he was loaned out to Liverpool where he was nearly part of their title winning side before being loaned out to Stoke City the following summer where he impressed under Mark Hughes.

It will be difficult to predict whether Moses will make it as a Chelsea player given the talent the Blues have on the wing and Mourinho‘s famous resilience in sticking with players that are doing a satisfactory job such as Eden Hazard and Willian, a problem also relevant to Juan Cuadrado and Marko Marin.

Marco Van Ginkel enjoyed a loan spell with AC Milan last season and the young Dutchman is slowly gaining experience as the Blues have sent him to the ever-improving Stoke side.

Van Ginkel was bought by the Blues back in 2013 and has been often seen as a young prospect due to his versatility to playing in a defensive role and also as a central midfielder linking the defence and attack.

With caps already for Holland, Van Ginkel could earn his way into Chelsea‘s team in the near future as he improves and midfielders such as John Obi Mikel and Ramires slowly become surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Patrick Bamford is a youth prospect Chelsea appear to rate quite highly, whilst impressing greatly at Derby County and becoming the Championship Player of the Season he looks set to become a dangerous forward the Blues will look to hold on to.

He has been loaned to fellow Londoners Crystal Palace for this season and netted a pre-season hat-trick in his first game for the Eagles, showing signs that perhaps he will be an important figure in the future for Jose Mourinho.

As things stand it looks like Bamford will likely have a future at Chelsea and his development and attitude will continue to catch the eye of their coaches and we could see his breakthrough into the regular squad before long.
