United were heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, with reports claiming Louis van Gaal’s side would be willing to spend up to £100m to bring the Welshman to Old Trafford.

However both player and club have publically denied these claims, with Bale saying: “Manchester United? I’m happy in Madrid. I love the city, the weather and the club. I’m eager to win more silverware here.”

And now reports in Italy have claimed that United are turning to Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba as a potential signing this month.

Boss Louis van Gaal is looking to bring the Frenchman back to the club which he left in 2012 in a deal that could be worth around £77m.

Pogba is wanted by a number of European clubs including the Premier League’s Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.
