Louis Van Gaal has recieved criticism from ex-players and the fans for killing United’s traditional attacking flair but the Dutchman claims it is not him who is responsible for that.

Stars like Di Maria and Falcao have been slammed for not performing to their full potential. Van Persie, who has been ruled out for at least two weeks with an ankle injury, has only 10 goals to his name this season. Wayne Rooney has been playing in midfield recently and has 9 goals whilst on-loan Falcao has just four.

Van Gaal reassured the media that it is not his fault. “We cannot deny that at this moment we don’t have a striker who scores 20 goals in the season.

“Van Persie cannot deny it, Falcao cannot deny it while Rooney is not playing there [as a striker] much any more.

“They could be having an unlucky year but I have to decide, with my staff, whether that is the case or there are other factors.

“It is not always the fault of the manager, when a player is not performing well, I can tell you!”

Van Gaal has also claimed that record signing Angel Di Maria is still adapting to the English game after his performances have dipped since moving from Real Madrid last summer.

He added: “He is a very creative player and you can see this from the statistics. He needs that space and I give him that space, but he also needs to do things with his brain and that is a learning process, not only for Di Maria, but with all the players.”

Meanwhile David De Gea has denied reports that he and manager Van Gaal have fallen out.

He said: “Everything that has been written about us not getting on is a lie.

“We both want the best for the club and the team, and the stories are complete lies.

“I am playing the best football that I’ve ever played. And I am enjoying the moment.”
