Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has reportedly agreed a huge deal at rivals Manchester United.

The Beglian defender has fallen out of favour with Arsene Wenger at the Emirates, and has struggled to compete for places against the likes of Mertesacker and Koscielny.

Vermaelen shares the same agent as Robin Van Persie and has contacted United to revive the player’s career.

Following the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, United boss Van Gaal sees Vermaelen as a more than capable replacement to fill in the gaps left at the heart of the defence.

It is understood that Vermaelen has made the decision to leave Arsenal and has agreed a new four year deal at United, earning £100,000 a week.

Now all Manchester United must do is agree a fee for the defender, and Arsenal would be willing to sell if at least £10m was offered.
