Andre Villas Boas has stated that he built Chlsea’s Champions League winning side, and deserves credit for leading Spurs to an impressive Premier League finish.

Villas Boas is now the manager of Russian side Zenit, after being presented as the clubs manager earlier today.

The Portuguese manager was sacked by Spurs in December, following a 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool.

And he defended his record at White Hart Lane, by stating.

“In my first year at Spurs, the team achieved its highest ever points total in the Premier League.

“In regards to my second year with Spurs, I cannot comment on this due to contractual reasons.”

The new Zenit boss also claimed that he built the Chelsea squad in 2012.

“When I left Chelsea the previous season, they went on to win the Champions League. You have to give the players credit, but it was me who constructed that team.”
