Southampton’s powerful midfielder Victor Wanyama looked to be on his way out of the club after being left out of the squad to play Norwich last Sunday.
However a move to another club failed to materialise and now the Saints want to open contract talks.
The Kenyan interational is a wanted man by both Arsenal and their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at a valuation of £18 million.
Southampton‘s executive director Les Reed has said that he is eager to keep Wanyama.
“We’d like to tie him down for another five years,” he said.
“Whether that’s possible or not, I don’t know, but the opportunity is there to do that.”
