Wayne Rooney confident that Harry Kane will break his England record.

Harry Kane is just 13 goals shy from Rooney’s record of 53 goals for the England national team.

Rooney himself surpassed Bobby Charlton’s record who stood for 45 years in 2015 and is confident that Kane has the ability to surpass his record.

“I said when I stopped playing that I was fully expecting Harry to get that record,” said Rooney. “He’s a fantastic player, a goalscorer, and obviously he’s got time on his side.

“I’d be the first to congratulate him. Records are great, of course, but they’re there to be broken.

“When Harry does break that record, he deserves all the credit and praise he gets, because it’s a great honour to hold that record.”

England manager Gareth Southgate himself said: “He is certainly on track to break Rooney’s record. Let’s hope he stays fit. If he plays the games, I don’t see that record not being broken.”
