Arsene Wenger has praised goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski for his excellent display in the FA Cup against Liverpool on Sunday.

With first choice Szczesny being rested ahead of the Gunner’s upcoming Champions League tie against Bayern Munich, Wenger turned to the Polish shot stopper to replace him. Wenger’s choice paid off as the goalkeeper was forced straight into action as Daniel Sturridge forced him into an excellent save in a one-on-one situation in which the keeper came out on top. His excellent performance continued as he continuously denied Liverpool sensation Luis Suarez from scoring on multiple occasions.

The Gunners went on to win the match 2-1 through goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski, with a consellation penalty from Steven Gerrard.

“I’m especially pleased for Fabianksi as I have a huge respect for him and his attitude and his quality. I’m so happy that he gets this opportunity to show his quality.”

“I think all the players have done extremely well. Yaya Sanogo is another one who deserves a lot of credit for his performane. I’m very pleased he has that kind of commitment. He was always in the game, lively, and for a first game in a game of that intensity you must say well done”.

The win means the Gunners go through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and they will face Liverpool’s Merseyside neighbours Everton.

“We’ll need to control the game again and we’ll have some time to think about that. Let’s first focus on the Champions League, Bayern Munich is coming up. We are not favourites but in football one good thing is that the favourites don’t always win, so let’s make that thing true.”
