It’s official. With the continuing spread of the novel coronavirus, UEFA has called off Champions League – until further notice.

This also applies to the Europa League and Euro 2020 when it comes to the qualifying playoffs, which were supposed to be held on Wednesday.
The qualifying playoffs and international friendlies for Euro 2020 had been planned to take place in June. This might make it easier for domestic leagues to resume their matches – atl least behind closed doors – and finish off their seasons. If nothing, this will bide them more time.
“All national team matches for men and women due to be played in June 2020 are postponed until further notice. This includes the playoff matches for UEFA EURO 2020 and qualifying matches for UEFA Women’s EURO 2021,” stated UEFA on their site.
However, a major issue that comes up for when the Champions League and Europa League does finally resume is that several player contracts are ending this summer – June 30th 2020, to be specific.
Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Atalanta are currently qualified for the quarterfinals and the Champions League has been suspended from the point on – 16th round stage.
The four places or spots are left to fill up will only be decided after the following fixtures are played: Manchester City vs. Real Madrid, Juventus vs. Lyon, Barcelona vs. Napoli and Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea.
Currently, UEFA is trying to set new deadlines to save the season.
