“We’ve always said the same thing about Cavani. We were hoping he would stay with the club, but today he asked to leave,” Leonardo explained of the club’s all-time record scorer, who has 198 goals in all competitions for the club. “We’re studying the situation. We’ve had a proposal from Atletico Madrid, but that proposal was not commensurate with the player’s value.”
“For Cavani, we’re listening. The link with Atletico Madrid has faded a bit because we haven’t been in touch since the offer,” said the Brazilian, now in his second stint as PSG’s sporting director. “We’re looking to the future. It’s a bit clearer, for the player, for the future. We’ll see how it develops over the next few days. We’re listening because we respect the player.”
“I think we have a complete squad, really complete. We’ve got strong alternatives: we’ve got Draxler, who can play anywhere, and we’ve got other players who can play as a central striker. There are a lot of alternatives,” he explained. “But it’s difficult to replace a player like Cavani, and we have to think very clearly. We’ve never asked for a particular sum of money. Everybody talks about it but we’ve never established a value because the most important thing is what everyone wants. And we should be clear about this: the player wants to leave.”
