Manchester United set to issue £60m ultimatum to Real Madrid

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has made his intentions clear to Real Madrid. He wants Alvaro Morata, but is determined not to pay more than £60m.

The Red Devils had a bid of £52m for the striker. However, Real are adamant that the amount is not enough.

The Spanish side were reportedly holding out for a £78m deal, as well as a move for United goalkeeper David De Gea, who Real have been chasing for a long time.

However, De Gea is not keen on a move to the Bernabeu, meaning Keylor Navas is set to remain as Real’s number one next season.

Mourinho had been linked with a move for Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, also wanted by Chelsea, as well as Torino forward Andrea Belotti.

Torino, though, are demanding around £70m for Belotti, pricing United out of a move. And Mourinho is reportedly more keen on Morata than Belgian Lukaku.

With United’s number one transfer summer target Antoine Griezmann almost certainly staying with the club, Mourinho is looking at other options.

Any forward arriving at Old Trafford this summer would likely push Marcus Rashford down the pecking order, however the young English starlet is optimistic about the future.

“At a big club you are going to attract big players and that’s what we want,” Rashford told Sky Sports when asked about Morata.

“Anyone who can come in and help the club win trophies, which is the ultimate aim, they are the players we want to bring in.

“Good competition is important if you want to be successful.”
