The defender will stay at Dortmund for a further season

Mats Hummels has confirmed that he will remain at Borussia Dortmund for a further Bundesliga campaign.

26-year-old Hummels has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United over the course of the summer transfer window – but has put to bed any rumours that he is to leave the club.

Having has seen the likes of former manager Jurgen Klopp, as well as ex-team-mates Robert Lewandowski, and Mario Gotze over the past couple of years, Hummels, who captains club and country, is not ready to leave yet.

As well as Hummels, Louis Van Gaal has also targeted his Borussia colleague, Ilkay Gundogan, though the midfielder rebuffed the advances of the Old Trafford giants.

HUMMELS HAPPY TO STAY

Despite the interest from United, the Germany World Cup winner revealed that he will not up-sticks over the next few weeks, but did not inform fans of his long-term plans.

“There have always been rumours about almost every one of our players, but I decided not to make the move this year,” Hummels said in Singapore, ahead of Dortmund’s Pre-season tour of the East-Asian country.

“When the big clubs, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, is interested in you, it’s an honour and it’s a kind of an acceptance of what you play – so it’s a good thing.
