Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson turns down Iraq manager job

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has turned down the offer for becoming the manager of the Iraq national football team according to reports from Sky.

Eriksson met delegates from the Iraq Football Association at Istanbul last week. It is believed hat he was offered a three-year deal at the team.

Eriksson was also offered to become the coach of the Cameroon national football team following the departure of Hugo Broos.

The 70-year old Swede had discussions with the Cameroonian Football Federation last week at Yaounde.

The Cameroonian Football Federation said, “After the interview with Sven-Goran Eriksson and taking into account the other existing offers, Fecafoot will reveal in the next few days its choice of permanent coach for our national team.”

Sven-Goran Eriksson has a total of 40 years in managing football teams. He was England’s coach from 2001-2006, managing them at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups and Euro 2004. He has also managed Mexico and Ivory Coast at the 2010 World Cup.

Eriksson has managed several renowned clubs like Benfica, Lazio, Manchester City and AS Roma. His last managerial assignment was in China where he managed Shenzen FC from 2016-2017.
