Man City had spectacular 2017/18 season. Manager Pep Guardiola improved upon his first season managing in England where he only finished in the top four and failed to win any major trophies. But in the 2017/18 season, City swept away the league with his brand of entertaining, attacking football. City not only won the league- easily, but they also broke a number of records on along the way. This includes breaking the record for most goals scored in a single Premier League season (106) which was previously held by Ancelotti’s Chelsea back in 2010 (103). They are also the first team to reach over 100 points in a top-flight Premier League season.
In the 2016/17 season, Pep made some good signings. The most notable among them was the signing of defender John Stones, who arrived for £49million from Everton. Stones was praised for his form at Goodison Park and has impressed this season in 2018.
Other signings City made were more successful. Young German winger Leroy Sane had an excellent season, and January signing Gabriel Jesus had a great impact. Despite getting injured, the Brazilian really impressed in his first few months in the Premier League. He will be a real danger next season to City’s title rivals.
This season they signed Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, Aymeric Laporte, Kyle Walker and Danilo. They have all proven to be great signings and they have helped City to take a substantial lead in the Premier League. Because of their signings, it looks like Pep Guardiola is going to win the Premier League for City in the 2017/18 season. Manchester City are also in the Champions League round of 16 and they are expected to go far in that competition, if not win it.
Their objectives for next season will be to win the league again. As we have seen with Chelsea and Leicester City, it’s very hard to win the Premier League a second time in a row. They will also be looking to have a strong Champions League campaign also. With the money they have spent, it should be a realistic target for Pep Guardola’s team.
How does the Man City first team for 2018/19 season looks like? The Manchester City line up 2018/19 season will consist of these players.
Manchester City have recently signed new goalkeeper Ederson after releasing veteran Willy Caballero at the end of the 2016/17 season. Claudio Bravo was signed at the end of last season, but didn’t impress last season. Ederson, meanwhile has had a great season for City and has easily taken his place as City’s number 1 this season.
The Man City defence were phenomenal in the 2017/18 season. Pep’s team finished the seaosn with a record +79 goal difference thanks to their steely defence and electric attack. City have been fantastic at the back and they have kept a number of clean sheets. They spent over £100 million on defenders during the summer in 2017, bringing in the likes of Kyle Walker from Tottenham, Benjamin Mendy from Monaco and Danilo from Real Madrid. City also signed Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao and he looks like a class defender with great passing and defending. This has been perhaps Pep’s greatest improvement this season as City manager as he has improved the defence markedly.
City have what is regarded as one of the best midfield’s in the league. They have some truly world-class players in their ranks when it comes to the midfield. Kevin De Bruyne was their record signing, a man who they paid £55million for. However, he has completely justified that pricey fee. Their squad depth in midfield is fantastic as they have lots of fantastic players. If De Bruyne can’t play, they have players like David Silva and Bernardo Silva who can take his place. They signed Ilkay Gundogan in 2016 and he had a really good start to his Man City career before suffering a serious injury just before Christmas. This season they have improved even more with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling, in particular, impressing. Meanwhile, Pep has been gradually increasing the youngsters’ playing time with Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz both highly rated.
These are the strikers in the Manchester City squad. The signing of Gabriel Jesus has been a stroke of genius by Pep Guardiola so far and they already have a truly world-class striker in Sergio Aguero. However, with the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfried Bony and Nolito having left last season, they may be a little short on options in the future as they are competing in four competitions next season.
