Olympique Marseille have completed the signing of Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman from AS Roma at an initial fee of £23 million. Strootman has signed a 5-year contract with the club. The deal also includes several add-ons. The 28-year old midfielder said that the club’s ambitions, history and his good relations with manager Rudi Garcia fuelled his desire to join the club.

This move thus ends Strootman’s 5-year stay at Roma. He joined the Serie A club from PSV in  2013 at an initial fee of €17 million. Strootman played 131 matches for the Rome outfit across all competitions. He scored 13 goals and provided 20 assists. Kevin Strootman has also played 40 matches for the Netherlands, scoring three goals.

Strootman is Marseille’s third signing this summer. The club began Ligue 1 with a 4-0 trouncing of Toulouse. However, they lost to newly-promoted Nimes in their next match. On Sunday, they drew against Rennes.

Marseille are currently 9th in Ligue 1 and play their next match against Monaco on Sunday.
