Liverpool tried to sign Leroy Sane from Schalke over the summer, according to a club official.
Reports emerged yesterday that the Reds could make a formal bid for the teenager in the New Year, with a fee of around £11.1million mentioned, but according to officials at Schalke, they made their move in the summer.
Brendan Rodgers was once again very active over the summer, reinvesting the money made from the Raheem Sterling sale to Manchester City.
The likes of; Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne all arrived at Anfield over the summer for substantial money.
However, according to Schalke’s general manager Horst Heldt, the Premier League outfit made a move for Sane as well over the summer.
‘There was one or another prestigious clubs that contacted us,’ he told German magazine Focus.
