The Red Devils might be 11 points behind the top four Premier League spots but realistically still have 21 games to make their way up the table. The busy winter schedule guarantees nothing and bigger point-gaps have been recovered in the past.
When asked about United’s chances of making into the top four, Mourinho said, “Yes, I think. What gives me that belief? It gives me belief that we are going to make much more points in the second part of the season than we did the first part.”
“We played away, I know that we lost some other matches but we played away Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City, probably the three best teams apart from Tottenham. But we play away and I think we have the possibility to do more points in the second half of the season than the first.”
The United board were quick to pull the trigger on David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal but also when top four qualifications became impossible under the two managers. It should be noted that Mourinho does have time on his hands to make amends.
