Let’s count down to the Top 10 Biggest Release Clauses in World Football

Gerard Pique – £443m

Barcelona’s centre-back Gerard Pique is now one of the Top 10 Biggest Release Clauses in World Football. The Spanish player joined Barcelona from Manchester United for a measly £5 million fee in the summer of 2008. Since then he’s won multiple titles with Barcelona including the UEFA Champions League and the Spanish La Liga.

Pique signed a contract extension recently until June 2022 which included his massive release clause.

Dani Ceballos – £443m

Dani Ceballos makes his way to the list with a release clause of £443 million. The Spanish midfielder does not get the credit one needs to get from the fans. The 21-year old signed for Real Madrid last summer from Real Betis for around £16m on a contract until 2023.

The talented winger is obviously highly valued at Real Madrid given his massive release clause that’s equal with such players as Toni Kroos…

Toni Kroos-£443m

Toni Kroos is one of the best central midfielders in the world right now. His passing and vision is unreal. Real Madrid clearly pulled off a major coup in signing the German back in 2014 for a measly £20m from Bayern Munich.

The Real Madrid midfielder has a release clause of £443m million making him have one of the Top 10 Biggest Release Clauses in World Football.

Real Madrid slapped on the massive release clause when they extended his contract until 2022.

Luka Modric-£443m

Luka Modric has one of the Top 10 Biggest Release Clauses in World Football. The Croatian playmaker is one of Real Madrid’s best players’ on his day and the most important. Modric serves as a vital cog in the middle of the field linking up talented attackers such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

They have put a huge release clause on the Croatian because they want him to stick around for years to come.

Gareth Bale– £443m

Gareth Bale has one of the Top 10 Biggest Release Clauses in World Football. The Welsh winger is known for his pace and speed on the ball and has been an important asset for the team since breaking into the first team.

The 28-year-old has a release clause of £443 million making him just the sixth on the list with the biggest release clause.

Bale has been linked with a return to the Premier League to Manchester United recently so they will have to spend big if Real Madrid decide they don’t want to sell him.

Marco Asensio – £620m

Marco Asensio is fourth on our list of the Top 10 Biggest Release Clauses in World Football. Asensio has been a key man for Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid squad in recent seasons.

The 22-year-old won both the La Liga in 2016/17 and the Champions league in the same season. He has also been capped by Spain eight times.

The Spanish International has scored six goals in 23 appearances in the La Liga this season. Clearly he’s highly valued at Real Madrid which is why they gave him a contract until 2023 last year while slapping on a £620m release clause.

Isco – £620m

Isco has the third highest release clause in world football and so makes it on our list of the Top 10 Biggest Release Clauses in World Football. Isco has been a huge player for Real Madrid in recent seasons although he has struggled for game time this season.

His contract with Real Madrid includes a staggering buy-out clause of £620 million. The Spanish midfielder has formed a formidable partnership with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the midfield.

Isco has a contract with Real Madrid until 2022.

Lionel Messi – £626m

Regarded by many as the best player in the world, perhaps the greatest of all times. Lionel Messi is without any doubt one the best in the world if not just the best. The Argentine is one club type of player and has played for Barcelona since his youth team days and has grown into becoming the clubs greatest ever player.

Lionel Messi’s current deal with Barcelona has a buy-out clause of £626 million which needs to be activated in order to lure the Argentine away from the Catalan club, Messi has never made any intentions of leaving his boyhood club.

Messi is a five time Ballon D’or winner and has many trophies to his collection with Barcelona and has played a huge part in Barcelona’s success.

 Karim Benzema-£886m

Somehow, Karim Benzema has the joint-highest release clause in world football. We’re not too sure how or why as he’s merely an average striker in my opinion. But club manager Zinedine Zidane and club president Florentino Perez obviously value him highly.

Benzema has struggle for goals this season in 2017/18 and may be one of the reasons why Real Madrid are so far behind Barcelona in the Spanish La Liga race.

Cristiano Ronaldo – £886m- Highest of the Top 10 Biggest Release Clauses in World Football

It doesn’t matter whether Lionel Messi is better than Cristiano Ronaldo, The 33-year-old is probably a more marketable player. Ronaldo is undoubtedly the most complete player ever to grace the footballing world and definitely the best footballer of all time well, let’s not forget Lionel Messi.

According to his agent Jorge Mendes, Cristiano Ronaldo has a buy-out clause of £1 billion. However, closest estimates from different sources are at around £886m now. Though Manchester United fans dreams of watching the Portuguese play at Old Trafford one day it’s quite not believable the Red Devils will trigger his release clause.
