Read on for our list of Top 5 Premier League Goals From Behind The Halfway Line

5. Maynor Figueroa (Wigan vs. Stoke City, 2009)

Maynor Figueroa’s quick thinking saw him win the Premier League Goal Of The Season award for 2009/10. The Honduran defender saw Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen off his line after Wigan were awarded a free-kick just behind the halfway line. Figueroa hit it first time straight into the top corner. It was one of only four goals he scored in eight seasons in the Premier League.

4. Charlie Adam (Stoke City vs. Chelsea, 2015)

Charlie Adam is renowned for his excellent technique, and is often trying to catch goalkeepers off guard with speculative strikes from long range. This time it paid dividends. The goal was  against Chelsea and Thibaut Courtois no less. The Blues had already won the title by this stage, but there was nothing they could do to prevent this stunning strike from Adam finding the net from almost 70 yards.

3. Xabi Alonso (Liverpool vs Newcastle United, 2006)

Xabi Alonso is possibly the only ever player to score twice from his own half in the same year. The Spaniard found the net in an FA Cup tie against Luton in January 2006 with his weaker left foot from the centre circle. And he scored an even better goal here against Newcastle later in the year. This stunning lob had goalkeeper Steve Harper backpedaling so much that he lost his footing and could only watch as Alonso’s effort sailed over him and into the back of the net.

2. Wayne Rooney (Everton vs. West Ham, 2017)

Wayne Rooney scored a stunning long range goal against the same opponents West Ham for Manchester United back in 2014.  But it was just inside the opponent’s half so it didn’t make the list. However, his strike for Everton this week was even better. The ball fell to Rooney with Joe Hart out of his goal, and the former England international drilled the ball first time into the empty net from long distance. The technique on this one was just incredible, and capped a hat-trick for Rooney in a 4-0 win.

1. David Beckham (Manchester United vs. Wimbledon, 1996)

David Beckham scored the original halfway line goal for Manchester United against Wimbledon back in 1996. This is the goal that long range efforts always get compared to, and although not quite as far out as some of the others, the way that Beckham makes it looks so effortless and classy gives it the edge. The ‘keeper wasn’t even that far off of his line, but when a ball is hit so well there is little that you can do to stop it.
